Having a concrete deck can be a great asset to your home since they are so durable and long lasting, but they do fall into disrepair and have problems. By doing repairs on your concrete deck you can add years to the life it gives you. The most important thing to keep in mind when resurfacing your concrete deck is to make sure the bond between new and old concrete is strong. At times this may mean adding additional adhesive and not putting too much stress on the deck right away. Also, when you are resurfacing your concrete deck be sure that the weather is cool and cloudy. Too much heat and sun can affect the efficacy of the adhesives, which would be disastrous for your deck.
The first step in resurfacing your concrete deck is to decide which kind of adhesive you wish to use. The easiest to apply would probably be an acrylic bond mix. This type is semi-liquid and that makes it very easy to work with. But the cement should be mixed with water by hand before it is applied to the deck anyway so other types of adhesive will work just as well.
Now you need to be sure the area is free of debris before you begin resurfacing your concrete deck. You should also wash the area with water to make sure there is no grease on the deck as well. When you are finished then you should leave the deck slightly damp and make sure it is well rinsed. Next in resurfacing your concrete deck is to mix the cement. This is most easily done with a wheelbarrow and a small shovel. Pour in sand and gravel into the cement mixture. The ratio should be more gravel with only a small portion of cement added. Add in water a little at a time until the consistency is correct.
The first thing that needs to be added to the area when resurfacing your concrete deck is to apply the adhesive. Take the adhesive you chose and blend it with a few cups of cement. Spread this over the deck using a pain brush, making sure it is completely and evenly applied. Smooth the surface with a trowel and then immediately put the concrete over the adhesive layer.
If you chose a mix of acrylic bond then you can simply pour it from the container over the area you are resurfacing. When the adhesive because clear and transparent then you can add the concrete.
Now in the final step of resurfacing your concrete deck you need to even the repaired area out. Use a trowel to make sure the surface of the deck is even and smooth. Avoid the area until it is dry and apply a sealant to the deck three days after your repair. Resurfacing your concrete deck can be done alone if it is a simple project, but more complex decks or repairs may need help.
