With so many different types of diy home security products on the market today, trying to determine which one is right can be a daunting task. Some of these systems need to be installed by a professional while others are do-it-yourself projects. If you have been thinking about home security and are interested in adding a system as a way of protecting your family and personal belongings, the first step would be to understand the different types of home security products currently being sold on the market.
The most obvious choice is an actual home alarm system. For this, you would have two primary options to include wired and wireless. A wired system is typically installed by a professional although several DYI systems are also available. Although the wired alarm system provides excellent protection, because of it being wired there would be some limitations regarding installation locations. As a backup, the wired type of home security alarm would have a battery so if for any reason power was disrupted the system would not be affected.
The second option is the wireless alarm system. Without wires, you have greater flexibility regarding placement. In addition, the wireless system is more affordable and easier to install if you want to do the installation on your own. Although an alarm system such as this provides great protection, many people still feel more comfortable with a wired type of alarm. However, from the time the wireless home security system was introduced to now, technology has improved tremendously.
Another option for home security products is the standalone system, which is ideal if on a tight budget. This system consists of two devices, one that attaches to an entry point, whether a door or window, and the other on a nearby wall. If someone were to open or break through the door or window, the wire would submit a signal to the device on the wall, which in turn would sound an alarm. Although no monitoring is associated with the standalone system, meaning police, fire, or rescue would not be summoned, often the sound of the alarm itself is enough to scare an intruder away. In addition to being a great solution for homeowners, this product also works great for people who live in apartments or students away at college.
One of the more advanced types of home security products uses surveillance or closed circuit cameras. Available in a wired or wireless option, this system is designed to feed real time video to a VCR or DVR, which is then captured as permanent record until you choose to delete it. Additionally, this security product offers a unique advantage whereby you could log onto the system from anywhere in the world via a computer and the internet.
Just imagine being in the Caribbean only to log on to find someone inside your home or the home on fire. Along with the system notifying proper authorities, you too would have control in contacting the police or fire department. With everything captured on video, if someone had broken into the home and arrested, there would be proof for prosecution in court. While a home security product of this caliber is more expensive, it has proven highly beneficial for many homeowners.
