Window Treatments and Blinds – The Choices Are Many
Blinds are one of the most essential, yet often overlooked, areas of home decorating. They can compliment an overall theme or design, provide a splash of color to a room, or give your decorating scheme a finished and polished look. Not to mention the privacy you get when you install blinds in your home. However, sometimes it can be difficult to choose from all the great options.
There are a lot of choices when your getting blinds for windows in your home or office. You need to choose the type of window blinds, the size, the color, the material, the list just goes on and on. First, you might want to start with the actual type of blinds you want. Probably the most popular blinds for windows are mini blinds. They are more narrow than standard blinds starting from a size of ½ inch up to 2 inches.
There are different thicknesses in the slats, you may want to shop around. Usually mini blinds are aluminum or plastic, with plastic being the cheapest. Thicker slatted blinds are more expensive but they are stronger so it’s worth the cost. The choice in color and style is nearly unlimited so this is a very easy and standard option. Venetian blinds are similar and really only vary in that the slats overlap and are larger.

Vertical blinds are also very popular, especially with sliding glass doors. Because the slats are vertical and free hanging they are less likely to be damaged. If a small pet or child would run into a set of mini blinds they would likely be ruined. But if the same happened to vertical blinds, they would probably be momentarily displaced then swing back into place.
When choosing blinds for windows it’s also important to consider the material you’d like to choose. A lot of this decision has to do with the function you want. If you are trying to insulate your home or office from the cold then fabric blinds could be for you. Your choice of style and color will be limited but they will keep the heat in, keep the cold out, and block a lot of the light when they’re closed. Wooden blinds are a better choice if you are concerned with the look of the room.
They will look very nice and are able to be opened only part way if you desire. Many other man made materials are used and are generally more popular. Aluminum and plastic are probably the most common blind material.
They are fairly durable, look nice, and are cheap; not to mention the large variety of colors and patterns. Most important is choosing a blind you like and want to see in your home every day.
